New Silver "Baby Q" Gas Grill
I'm guessing that Weber has heard all the complaints about their decision to use only the 14oz skinny - and harder to find - propane tanks, but the manual now explicitly states on page 5 (for English) that I can use either 14.1 oz or 16.4 oz tanks. YEAH! Sorry, to those of you who already bought one that doesn't support the thicker tanks, but now they support them! Of course, the very first thing I did after I assembled the grill was to screw in my 16 oz tank to confirm that it works, which, of course, it does. NOTE: there is no wire harness to hold the disposable tanks (either size); it is entirely supported by the regulator fitting. It seems to be very sturdy and well-built, however, and I do not anticipate any issues, even though the 16oz tank is suspended in the air and held in place solely by the fitting.
The flame is even and, as everyone else has said consistent. THe Piezo lighter worked on the first click, even though my tank is a little less than half full. Assembly was easy enough to do without the directions, which is good, because the directions consist of small low detail pictures. The grate is very heavy, about as heavy as the entire rest of the grill!
I bought mine to use when camping. The grill is a bit bulky (I'm thinking about storage space), but at least I won't be burning down any forests due to massive grease flare-up (like I had with my cheaper Sunbeam portable grill).
I haven't had the grill very long, but I did want to be quick to let everyone know that the concern about being limited to the 14oz tanks is no longer a concern.
I bought two of these babies based on all the favorable comments here, one for the RV and one for home. They seemed to be well built, and with a respected name like Weber I expected them to last longer than the usual couple of years.
Well, now both of them have developed uneven burner flame to the point that the flame peters out completely by the time it reaches 2/3 of the way around the burner tube. I have seen other references to the problem on the web, but no fix.
If I have to replace a grill every two years or so. I might as well go back to the cheapies.
I have owned and used this grill for just over a year now and I have to say it more than lives up to the glowing reviews written about it. It's compact, easy to use, and does a great job on most everything I have cooked on it (I grill mostly chicken and veggies).
I got the extension hose and a small refillable propane tank so I wouldn't have to be sending empty disposable cylinders to the landfill. The grill sits top of a plastic storage container (the grill does not generate heat on the bottom, so you can set it on pretty much any surface).
The few cons that I can come up with are totally overshadowed by all of the pros. Anyway, just for the record, the temperature runs a bit on the high side, which just means you have to watch your food a bit more closely. Clean-up is a bit of a chore, since I don't have a backyard to degrease and rinse the grill in. Other than that, I have had no problems and am quite pleased with this little grill.
Be sure to read through the other reviews for how others are getting the most out of their Baby Qs.
The best grill out there period. Perfect for tailgating and if you have a small apartment or outdoor space.
I would recommend this to anyone.
If you want the propane canisters that fit with the metal ring attachment, just go to Lowes or Home Depot, don't go to the grill section, go to the torch section where they sell the hand torches for plumbing [hardware].
Have a big Weber gas grill at home which is well built and works great. So thought I would give this little fellow a try.It fits in the storage bay of my fifth-wheel camper which I use a lot and is light enough for the wife to handle.Cooks pretty evenly for a single burner and is well built.Fits my needs very well.
This grill is excellent. Lights easily, heats up quickly, cooks evenly, great grill marks. It was easy to assemble. Insert two pins to attach the lid and two screws attach the handle, wash the grill surface and screw in the gas cannister and you're done. It does take both the 16 and 14 oz gas cannisters, not sure if that is an update as other reviewers have said it didn't used to. The grill surface itself is the only thing that is heavy about it, the rest is pretty light. I have no problem bringing it out to the park next door (you do have to wait for it to cool to bring it in) and it fits easily in my trunk for tailgating etc.
I read all the great reviews and purchased a Weber Q 100. It's been nothing short of a disaster.
Assembly was easy enough, but the grill didn't get hot enough or reliably stay lit. In fact, a breeze would sometimes blow it out. Cooking a couple of burgers took about 20 minutes. Obviously, there was a problem. I got the same result from two different disposable propane tanks, as well as a 20# LP tank. (Yeah, I bought the hose for that, too. So I'm in for over $200 at this point.)
So I called Weber's customer service. They instantly thought it was the regulator/valve assembly, and promptly send a new one.
After receiving the new one and installing it, I had the same problems. Again I called Customer Service, and again, they're sending a new regulator/valve assembly. So I'll be without the grill for a while--it's been about three weeks so far. I'm not sure how many times this process will repeat, but it's extremely frustrating.
Had I taken this to a tailgate or on a camping trip, it would have been extremely embarrassing. Actually, maybe that's what I should do.
Avoid this until Weber gets the regulator issues solved.
I have used Weber Q grills since Nov 06. The original Q200 was purchased at auction with a broken leg. Without questioning the source of my purchase, Weber Service immediated forwarded without charge a replacement leg. We since purchased a Q100 for friends, without exception we have both enjoyed what we consider the best gas grill on the market. Its ease of use and the great cooking guide from Weber make for fail safe grilling. Buy a timer, read the guide for the type of food to be grilled, and you will experience the wonder of this product. First time out of the gate you will be a pro. I say this as one who has three functioning outdoor grills to include a large Jenair stainless grill. The Q performs far better and with less fuss than either. The secret is in the design of the Qs cast iron cooking grate and matching burner which contribute to the most even heating/searing of any grill on the market, to include other Weber products.
I recently purchased a Q 100. I wasn't concerned with the propane cylinder size issue, since I intended to run it from a large tank. While assembling the grill I was looking for the infamous wire bracket - it wasn't there!
The supplied manual, #41061 is dated 08/22/07 and specifically states (and illustrates) you can use either a 14.1oz or 16.4oz propane cylinder.
The catch is, with no wire bracket, the cylinder just hangs from the regulator without any support. This may cause problems over the long term.
As I said, not an issue for me since I'm just attaching a hose. Otherwise the grill is outstanding, love it!
I have owned this item for less than a year, and although I love the design, convenience and features, and have great success grilling with this item, the gas regulator valve failed on me. I am not sure if it was the manufacturer or poor fuel quality that clogged it, but I have never had this occur with previous gas grills. Otherwise, I find the size of the grill to be perfect for feeding 6 people. It is also easy to store, so I don't have to leave it outside in the harsh winter. If you buy this grill, make sure you register and keep receipt!
